Prairie and Wetlands

Tapestry Institute’s ranch facility is located at the foot of the Pine Ridge in northwestern Nebraska. It is comprised of shortgrass prairie and wetlands. The Land is the ground of everything Tapestry does — and is.

Projects such as the IKhana Fund and Indigenizing Environmental Law support Indigenous people working to re-stabilize environments that are seriously out of balance and protect places that are still healthy. At the same time, we help people of the dominant culture learn enough about Indigenous worldview to be allies who understand the importance of putting Indigenous Knowledge into action. The Land is essential to this work of weaving a healthy world of balance in which every person can once again sense the very real, deeply profound connection that binds us to one another and to the Land.

The prairie and wetlands here are out of balance, with invasive species out competing the native species. We are in the process of helping the prairie and wetlands return to a place of balance through the use of Indigenous knowledge and ways. We are currently identifying and documenting the plant, insect, and animal species found on the prairie and wetlands. As we continue this process, we will share the work through photographs, videos, and writing on our website. Join us in this journey of healing the Land.
